Property: EDTA is a white crystal powder. Its melting point is 240 °C(decomposition). Its dissolving degree in water is 0.5g/L (25°C). It is insoluble in common organic solvents. It is soluble in boiling water 160 times as much, and soluble in Alkali solvents like sodium hydroxide. At 150°C, it shows the tendency to depart from carboxyl.

Main application:

As an agent for complexation, EDTA is mainly used for water treatment, an Additive to detergent,a chemical for photography, papermaking and oil-field. It is also used as detergent for boiler

1. Polymer chemical industry: used as polymerization terminator for styrene-butadiene latex polymerization activator and acrylic fiber production device;
2. Daily chemical industry: used as an additive for various detergents, skin care products and perm hair conditioners;
3, paper industry: used as a treatment agent in fiber cooking, improve paper whiteness, reduce scaling in the steamer;
4. Pharmaceutical industry: Ethylene imine can be obtained by cyclization with formamide. It is a drug mainly used for the treatment of psoriasis. It is also used as a stabilizer for certain vaccines and a blood anticoagulant.
5, textile printing and dyeing industry: to improve the dyeing rate and the color and whiteness of printing and dyeing textiles;
6, in the food industry: can be used as a chelating agent in the food industry such as canning, to eliminate the interference of metal ions.
7. In molecular biology experiments: it is a divalent metal chelating agent that inhibits nucleases; reduces the stability of cell membranes.
