CMC Application on Ceramic:
Here please let me introduce the application of CMC in ceramic manufacturing. There are two applications for CMC on ceramic.
First of all, the application of CMC in ceramic body manufacturing
CMC can improve plasticity of ceramic body by adding it into raw material like mud and sand, so that the ceramic body is shaping as what you want. Meanwhile, it can improve the bending strength of unburned body to reduce a lot of damages. So it is a kind of strengthening agent with high efficiency for ceramic body. Comparing with other strengthening agent, there are advantages, such as low amount of addition, no residue after burning, no side effect. As ceramic raw material of with plasticity decrease day by day, the application of CMC in ceramic body is becoming more outstanding. The amount of adding CMC in ceramic body is 0.03-0.2%. When using CMC, please make it totally solute and then add it into ball grinder to make it mixed evenly with mud.
Secondly, the application of CMC in glaze
CMC is used as bonding agent, water-keeping, suspending and diluting agent in ceramic glaze.
One is to be used as thickener and emulsifier in glaze, and another is to be used as bonding agent for ceramic body manufacturing to improve plasticity and bonding strength of ceramic body. It can make glaze smooth and dense; when choosing CMC, please note that you can get smooth and dense glaze only by using the CMC with total reaction and high solubility. If using the CMC with bad solubility, it can impact the quality of glaze, and cause glaze defect. The amount of adding CMC in ceramic glaze is 0.05-0.3%
Thirdly, the application of CMC in printing glaze (printing oil and factice), and penetrating glaze
CMC is functioned as viscosifier, boding agent, diluting agent in printing glaze. There are four key elements of choosing printing glaze. The first one is the CMC must be highly solute, can can’t block screen. The second is good printing rheology to ensure good smooth printing. Third one is that CMC must be very fine, smooth, lubricating, and quick penetrating through screen. Fourth is good match with printing glaze to stabilize printing glaze. The amount of adding CMC in printing glaze is 0.05-0.3%
